How To Look After Your ZR Jewellery
Zohra Rahman jewellery is specially handcrafted using traditional techniques, making each piece exclusive and unique. Due to the delicate nature of jewellery, special care is required.
Be gentle with the links, posts, and clasps, as they can bend or break under force. Jewellery should always be the last thing you put on and the first thing to come off while dressing.
To prevent scratching and entanglement, keep your pieces separately when you are not wearing them. Ensure there is no pressure on the pieces where they are stored.
Sterling silver jewellery can tarnish over time due to exposure to air, moisture, and certain chemicals. This tarnishing is a natural reaction that occurs when silver comes into contact with sulfur-containing substances in the environment.
Store your sterling silver jewellery in airtight containers to protect it from moisture. Ziplock bags and silica gel packets are effective for avoiding tarnishing of your pieces when storing at home.
If your sterling silver jewellery becomes tarnished you can rub with an anti-tarnish jewellery polishing cloth to restore the original brilliance of the surface, or use the home cleaning method with baking soda described below. If the piece is too intricate or you would like it professionally cleaned you can contact us at the studio for polishing services.
Cleaning Your Sterling Silver Jewellery at Home
What You Will Need:
-
Aluminium foil
-
Baking soda
-
A bowl in which you can put the jewellery pieces
-
Tongs or tweezers
-
Dry cleaning cloth or soft tissues
-
Boiling water
Instructions:
-
Line your bowl with aluminium foil, shiny side up.
-
Bring the water to a boil and pour it into the bowl. There should be enough water to reach the top of the bowl.
-
Add 1 tablespoon of baking soda for each cup of water. If you’re using 2 cups of water, add 2 tablespoons of baking soda. Be prepared; this solution will bubble.
-
Mix the solution well.
-
Place your jewellery piece or pieces in the bowl. Ensure that the jewellery is touching the aluminium foil.
-
Leave the jewellery in the solution for 5-10 minutes, depending on the level of tarnish.
-
Remove the jewellery with a pair of kitchen tongs or a spoon. Be careful not to burn yourself with the hot water.
-
Rinse the jewellery in cool water. Dry it properly with a soft tissue or cloth, rubbing it gently to make the jewellery shine again.
Note: Do not use this method for jewellery with gemstones.
Gold-Plated Jewellery
If you wear your gold-plated jewellery for a significant period of time, the plating will eventually wear down. Lotions, perfumes, and moist conditions will corrode it faster. Avoid contact with perfumes and lotions to prolong its life.
